Patio furniture or garden furniture is furniture made specifically for outdoor use. It should be made of weather resistant material. Some of the materials used today for patio furniture include stone, metal, vinyl, plastic, glass, and treated woods.
Patio furniture consisting of a table, four chairs and a large sun umbrella is the most common patio set. Some sets include a long chair known as a chaise lounge.

Patio furniture made of wood is quite versatile. With or without cushions is how wood patio furniture is used. There are many different types of wood frames to choose. Here are most types of wood used for patio furniture: pine, oak, cypress, teak, mahogany, cedar, maple, birch and beech, as well as a number of exotic hardwoods.
You can paint, oil or stain wood. Some wood like teak can be almost carefree if you allow it to weather to a beautiful silver-grey color. You must re-oil, re-stain or repaint your wood patio furniture from time to time.

Is it possible to get garden furniture which will last forever? It most certainly is! In the last two years contemporary garden furniture in a new high-tech synthetic rattan has been designed which can be left outdoors all year and will never fade or rot.

As the credit crunch bites in earnest those with homes & steady incomes are deciding to ‘improve not move’ and one of the first places they start is the garden. A well designed garden, with the right outdoor furniture and accessories can literally add an extra room to a home and of course there is no need to bring in builders, plumbers or electricians to create an outdoor space.

The trend for 2009 is to decide on the furniture and accessories (parasols etc) & plant around them, choosing the styles & colours of the plants to match.

But what do you do when winter arrives and your carefully chosen and rather expensive garden furniture needs to be bought in from the cold, rain and maybe even snow? Unless you have allowed storage room for it (eating up that precious space) you have to leave it outdoors, and watch as the elements take their toll.
